En su Pleno vuelo inconsistente, Sofía del Mar Collins considera la naturaleza volátil del deseo a través del ciclo de vida metamórfico de insectos. Mariposas, libélulas y luciérnagas emergen como agentes diminutos de transformación habitantes de los humedales del archipiélago caribeño que continuamente inspiran su obra. El aleteo de estas criaturas, al cual se alude a través de las configuraciones triangulares y kaleidoscópicas que construyen las superficies de las pinturas, quizás nos recuerda a la inviabilidad de capturar una consciencia en vuelo. ¿Cómo es la avidez de volar en el espacio distinta al ímpetu que nos propulsa a alcanzar, y no necesariamente obtener, nuestros deseos individuales y colectivos, inestables, ambiguos y cambiantes? En luz de esta reflexión, los pigmentos se derriten y fusionan sobre uno y el otro como sensaciones nebulosas que se median interdependientemente entre la armonía y la disonancia. Una corriente miríada de gestos pintorescos y textiles acentúa aún más el poder ondulatorio de lo minúsculo. De esta forma, la naturaleza nos ofrece ejemplos vivos, ricos y diversos de cómo relacionarnos. Adicionalmente, la artista presenta una trama flotante que experimenta con la mancha hilada a través de diferentes fibras cómo lana, algodón y lino. En esta, Sofía del Mar Collins explora cómo una serie de relaciones asimétricas y red no lineal de flujos puede sostener una estructura.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Mediante activaciones oníricas, busco conectar con el pasado, encontrar resiliencia en el presente y poner en marcha perspectivas para un futuro adaptable, sensible e incierto. Mientras converjo sensaciones e imágenes dentro de un marco de pintura expandida, procesos textiles como coser, bordar, tejer y teñir con pigmentos botánicos marcan su presencia en mi práctica.
Me interesa difuminar las diferencias entre el “craft” y las bellas artes, así como las formas de percibir las relaciones entre la naturaleza y el mundo industrial. Mi creciente práctica con fibras naturales me impulsa a rastrear historias sociales y abrazar el potencial poético de diversas superficies. Enraizadas en el intercambio de lugar y espíritu, mis proyectos exploran dinámicas espaciales y circularidades materiales, donde los límites entre el nacimiento y la decadencia de las imágenes se extienden desde el afecto corporal hacia un paisaje cambiante e intersticial.

Las figuras que habitan la obra de Kiván Quiñones Beltrán podrían transmutarse en muchos personajes: una presencia ancestral, una referencia a la pintura haitiana o una encarnación del tan elusivo duende de Federico García Lorca, asomándose a la posesión. Sus seres transitan entre estados liminales, entre medios como la pintura y la instalación. El espacio de la galería se centra en la cama deshecha y vivida, la cual es a su vez un portal entre el sueño y la vigilia, el inconsciente y el consciente. Es también el locus del principio y del fin de la vida y de los estados de conciencia.
En su práctica, Quiñones explora referentes de tradiciones ritualísticas afrocaribeñas y sincréticas, como lo son el vudú, los nkisi del Congo, títeres Sogo Bò de Mali y prácticas de adivinación del África Central. Las tres instalaciones reconcilian estas ancestralidades con los lenguajes formales de la contemporaneidad, esto es en homenaje a The End of the 20th Century (1984) de Joseph Beuys y My Bed (1998) de Tracey Emin. Estos seres van en peregrinación por el espacio y por el tiempo moderno. Altar, trono y archivo: el artista crea un contexto desde donde reformular la mirada contemporánea, canalizando las corrientes que vinculan a nuestro archipiélago con otras temporalidades y tradiciones espirituales y estéticas.
Aquí y ahora, el Caribe es un portal al futuro.

Kiván Quiñones (b. 1997 Santurce, Puerto Rico) obtained a BA in Communications from the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2020). He realizes works from West African fabric, animal skulls, brooms, acrylic paint, gouache, candles, chalk, sand, river dirt, seawater, oil pastels, and bed fitters, among many other elements from his ancestral and present self, to "Redefine the language of found objects to the point that we can use them as portals."
He has been an artist in residence L’Artocarpe in Guadeloupe (2025) in The Macedonia Institute in Upstate NY (2024) and at the Alfonso Arana Foundation, in Spain/Paris (2023). Among his most recent solo exhibitions are: Sueños que me alcanzan al despertar, Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR (2025); Everything I had but couldn't keep, Recinto Cerra, San Juan, PR (2023); A Brief Narration of Destruction,El Kilómetro, San Juan PR (2023); Power Figures, Pública, San Juan PR (2022); and They Call Me, Dragon Crab Turtle, St. Louis, MO (2022). His most recent group exhibitions include: Feria Arco, The Ryder Projects (2025), Charismatic Goods, CANADA gallery, NYC (2025), Tribe Caribe, La Habana, Cuba (2025), Llego a mi alma, surgió en mi memorial, Ambar Quijano, CDMX, MX (2025), Reuniones, Fortuna, Lausanne, CH(2024); Beneath the paving stones, STONE/AGE, Los Angeles, CA (2024); and Black Brick Projects, Brooklyn, NY (2023).

Desde la antigüedad vemos como el mar es fuente de inspiración en la mitología griega, romana, cristiana y de las religiosidades africanas como símbolo de poder y misterio. El mar también es parte de esas identidades insulares de ser isleño, la cual es reforzada por las fronteras de cuerpos de agua.
Hoy nos encontramos con dos artistas isleños, dos generaciones que a través de sus obras están unidos por el mar, el archipiélago, el caribe y su identidad. Donde sus procesos creativos navegan al unísono por los caminos místicos del sincretismo y la espiritualidad. Ambos conscientes de una época que no vivieron pero que genéticamente la llevan dentro de su sangre como torrente acuático que da vida a sus cuerpos y
memorias ancestrales.
Gadiel Rivera Herrera, lleva un diálogo constante entre el mar y su obra. Al igual que Olokun nos ha navegado a las profundidades, no del océano sino de nuestro ser. Ejemplo de ello lo fue su pasada muestra “Mar Adentro, Historias Profundas” donde nos recuerda el mar como lecho de millones de cuerpos esclavizados y el océano, un lugar de memoria o de resistencia. Sus cerámicas a veces nos evocan esos extraños mundos que conviven en, sobre y dentro del mar que nacen de su imaginario surrealista provenientes de investigacione antropológicas, creencias y vivencias personales. En otras ocasiones sus obras sobre papel, ricas en medios mixtos y transparencias, nos recuerdan nuestra condición de isla y archipiélago, unos espacios de conexión a través del mar.
Kiván Quiñones Beltrán nos sigue sorprendiendo por la madurez de sus obras. Como hechicero de objetos encontrados, pintados o fabricados nos lleva a ese mundo de telas colgantes fascinantemente construidas. Evocando en ocasiones chozas chamánicas y altares ascendentes. Porque eso es Kiván, un chamán contemporáneo, un observador que nos ofrece mirada rápidas, nuevas visiones, otras maneras de observar lo ya contemplado. Sus obras se convierten en altares, en rituales, en actos de devoción creativa que nos llevan a reflexionar sobre los procesos en la construcción de nuestra identidad caribeña . Excelentes obras como el “Profeta y sus siete Cabezas”, el “Hacedor de lluvia” y la Serie “Pizarras”, inspiradas en la contemplación del mar, en un imaginario caminar sobre él, nos revelan la capacidad transformadora del artista para envolvernos e invitarnos a su ritual creativo.
Una interesante muestra a dúo donde ambos artistas isleños nos invitan a celebrar el agua como elemento interconector y purificador. Desde el imaginario de caminar sobre un mar caribeño que une al archipiélago antillano o insertarnos en las profundidades del mismo para reconectarnos con nuestra ancestralidad. Nos presentan esa dualidad del mar, a veces violento y mortífero pero a su vez inspirador de paz y tranquilidad.

Kiván Quiñones Beltrán
BIO
Kiván Quiñones (b. 1997 Santurce, Puerto Rico) obtained a BA in Communications from the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2020). He realizes works from West African fabric, animal skulls, brooms, acrylic paint, gouache, candles, chalk, sand, river dirt, seawater, oil pastels, and bed fitters, among many other elements from his ancestral and present self, to "Redefine the language of found objects to the point that we can use them as portals."
He has been an artist in residence L’Artocarpe in Guadeloupe (2025) in The Macedonia Institute in Upstate NY (2024) and at the Alfonso Arana Foundation, in Spain/Paris (2023). Among his most recent solo exhibitions are: Sueños que me alcanzan al despertar, Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR (2025); Everything I had but couldn't keep, Recinto Cerra, San Juan, PR (2023); A Brief Narration of Destruction,El Kilómetro, San Juan PR (2023); Power Figures, Pública, San Juan PR (2022); and They Call Me, Dragon Crab Turtle, St. Louis, MO (2022). Gadiel Rivera Herrera nació y se crió en San Juan, Puerto Rico, donde tiene su taller. Cursó estudios de cerámica y escultura en el Recinto de San Germán de la Universidad Interamericana y posteriormente obtuvo un Bachillerato en escultura de la Escuelas de Artes Plásticas en San Juan. Ha presentado su trabajo artístico en exposiciones individuales y colectivas en y fuera de Puerto Rico. Del 2023 al 2024 su obra forma parte de las exhibiciones Puerto Rico Negrx en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (10/2023-9/2024), El Arte como re-existencia: lo Afropuertorriqueño, en el Museo de Arte, Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez (desde 11/2023) cuya primera sede fue el Museo de Historia Antropología y Arte, del Recinto de Rio Piedras (4/2023-8/2024), así como en Alto, ancho, fondo del Museo de Arte Francisco Oller (8/2023-3/2024), en la galería Souvenir 154 Marcas del mar (3/2024-4/2024) y en La Piel Muda el Tiempo de la galería de arte Hidrante (5/2024-7/2024).
Forma parte del cohorte 2024 del Artist Fellowship otorgado por el Latin Art Forum. Fue el primer artista afropuertorriqueño en recibir la beca de la Darryl Chappell Foundation para realizar una residencia artística (2022-2023) en el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR). Al finalizar la residencia exhibió su proyecto Mar adentro, historias profundas en la galería Cecilia Orta Allende del MAPR (5/2023-8/2023). Recientemente participó en las exposiciones About Clay en Souvenir 154 (12/2023), Small Favors del The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4/2023), Paréntesis 25 años (2021) en el Corredor Afro en Loíza, Barro 11 (2019) del Art Room en San Juan y en la Trienal de Arte de Espiritualidad Afro-Antillana y Caribeña: Pa’ los Santos (2017) en la Casa Escuté de Carolina. Recibió la Beca Lexus para su proyecto Asientos de Negros (2006) que se exhibió en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (2007). Formó parte de la exposición Paréntesis, ocho artistas negros contemporáneos que se presentó en el Museo del Arsenal de la Puntilla, San Juan y en varias sedes a través del archipiélago de Puerto Rico.
En 2023 fue nombrado artista del año por la Darryl Chappell Foundation y seleccionado como miembro del International Academy of Ceramics. Ha brindado experiencias artísticas a estudiantes desde nivel elemental hasta universitario en una diversidad de instituciones académicas, así como a adultos en proyectos comunitarios. Es un placer anunciar nuestra participación en Untitled Art Fair en Miami Beach, donde estamos presentes en el booth N32 de la sección NEST con una selección de obras de Sofía del Mar Collins y Enrique Rivera Príncipe, dos artistas cuyas prácticas entrelazan mito, espiritualidad y una profunda reflexión sobre la relación del ser humano con el paisaje y el cosmos.
Sofía del Mar Collins desarrolla un imaginario en el que lo acuático y lo celeste se fusionan a partir de sus experiencias en el manantial de Guayaney, en Puerto Rico. En sus obras, los peces, las figuras híbridas y las geometrías platónicas abren un espacio donde la percepción se expande hacia territorios intuitivos y etéreos, invitando a contemplar el paisaje como un umbral hacia lo simbólico y lo misterioso.
En paralelo, Enrique Rivera Príncipe explora el tránsito entre lo espiritual, lo ancestral y lo cósmico mediante personajes que atraviesan procesos de transformación, señales que orientan caminos interiores y formas luminosas que sugieren conexiones entre distintos planos de existencia. Su obra propone una lectura abierta, donde cada espectador puede construir su propia narrativa en diálogo con estos elementos.

We are pleased to announce our participation in Untitled Art Fair in Miami Beach, where we will be presenting a selection of works by Sofía del Mar Collins and Enrique Rivera Príncipe at booth N32 in the NEST section, two artists whose practices interweave myth, spirituality, and a profound reflection on the relationship between human beings, the landscape, and the cosmos.
Sofía del Mar Collins develops an imaginative universe in which aquatic and celestial realms merge, drawn from her experiences in the natural spring of Guayaney in the karstic region of Manatí, Puerto Rico. In her works, fish, hybrid figures, and Platonic geometries open a space where perception expands toward intuitive and ethereal territories, inviting viewers to encounter the landscape as a threshold to the symbolic and the mysterious.
In parallel, Enrique Rivera Príncipe explores the movement between the spiritual, ancestral, and cosmic through characters undergoing transformation, signals that guide interior pathways, and luminous forms that suggest connections across different planes of existence. His work encourages an open reading, allowing each viewer to build their own narrative in dialogue with these elements.

ENRIQUE RIVERA PRINCIPE
BIO
Enrique Rivera Príncipe (b. 1993, Ponce, Puerto Rico) is an artist whose detailed hand drawings and paintings explore the movement between the spiritual, ancestral, and cosmic. His work often centers on characters undergoing transformation, signals that guide interior pathways, and luminous forms that suggest connections across different planes of existence, encouraging viewers to construct their own narratives in dialogue with these elements. His artistic foundation began at the Museo de Arte de Ponce, where he participated in educational and community based programs in collaboration with institutions such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Rivera’s exhibition history reflects his ongoing participation in contemporary art scenes across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the broader region. He first participated in MECA in 2019, marking an important step in the visibility of his work. In 2021, his work entered the Casa Mella Russo collection in Santo Domingo. In 2022, he was included in the group exhibition En busca del Paisaje Perdido at Hidrante Gallery.
In 2024, Rivera expanded his presence through several exhibitions, including MECA in the Dominican Republic with Souvenir 154 Gallery, the group shows La Piedra Vulnerable at Hidrante Gallery, Puto Calor at Souvenir 154 Gallery, Amantes de la Noche at Galería Kilómetro, and his solo exhibition Jurutungo at Souvenir 154 Gallery.
In 2025, his work continues to reach new audiences with his participation in Untitled Art Fair in Miami Beach, and through his residency at San Juan 721 in Puerto Rico.
Rivera continues to develop a focused and highly detailed body of work that reflects an ongoing engagement with place, transformation, and contemporary Caribbean narratives.

Since antiquity, the sea has stood as a source of inspiration in Greek, Roman, Christian and African religious traditions, a symbol of power, mystery and the unknown. The sea is also part of the insular identities that shape the experience of being an islander, an identity strengthened by the boundaries drawn by surrounding waters.
Today we stand before two artists of the islands, two generations who, through their works, are bound by the sea, the archipelago, the Caribbean and the deep sense of identity they share. Their creative processes move in unison along the mystical pathways of syncretism and spirituality. Both are aware of an era they did not live, yet one they carry in their very blood, like a flowing aquatic current that gives life to their bodies and to the memories of their ancestors.
Gadiel Rivera Herrera sustains an ongoing dialogue between the sea and his work. Like Olokun, he has taken us into the depths, not of the ocean but of our own inner landscape. His recent exhibition, “Mar Adentro, Historias Profundas,” reminds us of the sea as the resting place of millions of enslaved bodies, and of the ocean as a site of memory and resistance.
His ceramics at times call forth those strange worlds that inhabit the sea, on its surface and within its depths — worlds born from his surreal imagination, enriched by anthropological inquiry, belief systems and personal experiences. At other moments, his works on paper, layered in mixed media and delicate transparencies, return us to our condition as an island and an archipelago, spaces eternally connected and shaped by the sea.
Kiván Quiñones Beltrán continues to astonish us with the maturity of his work. As a creator of found, painted or constructed objects, he leads us into a realm of hanging textiles assembled with striking intention, at times evoking shamanic dwellings or ascending altars.
For that is Kiván: a contemporary shaman, an observer who offers fleeting visions, new ways of seeing, other perspectives on what has already been contemplated. His works become altars, rituals, acts of creative devotion that guide us toward reflection on the processes that shape our Caribbean identity.
Remarkable works such as “The Prophet and His Seven Heads,” “The Rainmaker,” and the “Slate Series,” inspired by the contemplation of the sea and by the imagined act of walking upon it, reveal the artist’s capacity to envelop us and invite us into his creative ritual.
This is a compelling two person exhibition in which both island artists invite us to celebrate water as a connecting and purifying element. Whether through the imagined gesture of walking across a Caribbean sea that binds the Antillean archipelago, or through descending into its depths to reconnect with our ancestry, they present us with the dual nature of the sea — at times violent and mortal, yet equally a source of profound peace and stillness.

Kiván Quiñones Beltrán
BIO
Kiván Quiñones (b. 1997 Santurce, Puerto Rico) obtained a BA in Communications from the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2020). He realizes works from West African fabric, animal skulls, brooms, acrylic paint, gouache, candles, chalk, sand, river dirt, seawater, oil pastels, and bed fitters, among many other elements from his ancestral and present self, to "Redefine the language of found objects to the point that we can use them as portals."
He has been an artist in residence L’Artocarpe in Guadeloupe (2025) in The Macedonia Institute in Upstate NY (2024) and at the Alfonso Arana Foundation, in Spain/Paris (2023). Among his most recent solo exhibitions are: Sueños que me alcanzan al despertar, Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR (2025); Everything I had but couldn't keep, Recinto Cerra, San Juan, PR (2023); A Brief Narration of Destruction,El Kilómetro, San Juan PR (2023); Power Figures, Pública, San Juan PR (2022); and They Call Me, Dragon Crab Turtle, St. Louis, MO (2022). BIO
Gadiel Rivera Herrera was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he currently maintains his studio. He studied ceramics and sculpture at the San Germán Campus of the Interamerican University and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan. He has presented his artistic work in solo and group exhibitions both in Puerto Rico and abroad. From 2023 to 2024, his work is included in the exhibitions Puerto Rico Negrx at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (10/2023–9/2024); El Arte como re-existencia: lo Afropuertorriqueño at the Museo de Arte of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (since 11/2023), whose first venue was the Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte at the Río Piedras Campus (4/2023–8/2024); as well as in Alto, ancho, fondo at the Museo de Arte Francisco Oller (8/2023–3/2024); 154 Marcas del mar at Souvenir gallery (3/2024–4/2024); and La Piel Muda el Tiempo at Hidrante art gallery (5/2024–7/2024).
He is part of the 2024 cohort of the Artist Fellowship awarded by the Latin Art Forum. He was the first Afro–Puerto Rican artist to receive the Darryl Chappell Foundation fellowship for an artist residency (2022–2023) at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR). Upon completing the residency, he exhibited his project Mar adentro, historias profundas at the Cecilia Orta Allende Gallery of the MAPR (5/2023–8/2023). He recently participated in the exhibitions About Clay at Souvenir 154 (12/2023); Small Favors at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4/2023); Paréntesis 25 años (2021) at the Corredor Afro in Loíza; Barro 11 (2019) at Art Room in San Juan; and the Trienal de Arte de Espiritualidad Afro-Antillana y Caribeña: Pa’ los Santos (2017) at Casa Escuté in Carolina. He received the Lexus Grant for his project Asientos de Negros (2006), which was exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (2007). He was also part of the exhibition Paréntesis, ocho artistas negros contemporáneos, presented at the Museo del Arsenal de la Puntilla in San Juan and at multiple venues throughout the Puerto Rican archipelago.
In 2023, he was named Artist of the Year by the Darryl Chappell Foundation and selected as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. He has offered artistic experiences to students from elementary through university levels in a variety of academic institutions, as well as to adults in community-based projects. From 2015 to 2022, he taught Introduction to Ceramics and Wheel-Thrown Ceramics in the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.
